frequently asked questions
What does "nuena" mean?
Nuena is a word I made up about 7 years ago... inspired by a Brigitte Bardot song called "Nue au Soleil". Listen to it, it's good.
Do you shoot film or digital?
100% Digital. I use all top of the line professional Canon equipment.
How long have you been shooting pets?
I've been shooting pictures of my own pets my entire life. I started taking photos of other people's pets in 2004 and worked to build my professional portfolio through 2006 - then I officially started my business in 2007.
What kinds of photography do you do?
I shoot all kinds of things but mainly I specialize in pets, babies and food (the best things in life). To view my other work, visit www.nuena.com. Pets are by far my favorite things to shoot photograph.... especially baby puppies, rescues and old senior dogs. You can find me all over SF and the East Bay shooting for various rescue groups and pet-related fundraisers. I also shoot commercially for pet-related businesses and take assignment work for magazines.
How far do you travel to take photos?
I primarily shoot in and around the San Francisco Bay Area (SF, Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville) but I also travel up to Napa/Sonoma, the North Bay, and South Bay as far as San Jose. I'm also in the PA/NJ/NYC area once or twice a year and I do book sessions out there as well.
Where are your photoshoots?
Photo sessions can be booked either in the location of your choice or at my studio. 98% of all sessions I do are out "in the field"... including the park, beach, your home, walk through the city, out on a hike, in the backyard, etc. Use your imagination!
Do you shoot multiple pets in one sitting?
Yes of course! No charge for that - the more the merrier. But be warned that the more animals per photosession, the less images of each individual pet I will take. I suggest the maximum number of pets per session is 2.
Are there any breeds or animals that you won't shoot?
If you can assure me that I will be able to leave with all my fingers, then no - I don't discriminate. If you have a rowdy pet, I appreciate if you try to keep him/her under control, as I love dogs, but I'm not a dog trainer.
How do I book a photo session?
Call 415-269-7196 or email me directly to book a session. A $75 deposit is required to hold the date and the remaining balance and a signed release form is due the date of the session.
Do you shoot all year round?
Yes, most definitely!
How long is the photoshoot?
Sessions last about 2 hours - sometimes more, sometimes less. This includes time in the beginning to get to know each other as well as a few mini breaks. I don't like to rush anyone, so I'm pretty flexible when it comes to time. Basically, I will shoot until I get the shots - or your dog calls it quits. 'nuff said.
What if it's raining or windy or snowing on the day of the photoshoot?
We reschedule it - no big deal.
Do you shoot in black and white?
Since I'm shooting digital, all images are captured in color by default - however any image you like may be converted to black/white or sepia for a small fee.
Do you offer books and albums?
Yes, you can order a custom designed coffee table book or flush mount album. There are a number of different sizes and options, so email me if you'd like more info. Nuena Photography is also partnered with minted.com (cool modern notecards/holiday cards/announcements/etc)
How do I order prints?
You can order prints directly from your online proofing gallery or by emailing me your order directly. To order online, click on "client" (above) and type in your password. Your photos will appear. Click on a thumbnail and start adding photos to your shopping cart! If you are having trouble, send me an email.
You include web-ready files with the photo packages - do you also give high-res files? High-res files are available a la carte, they are not included with any photography package.
How big are the high-res and low-res files that you give to clients? The high-res images that are available for purchase a la carte will comfortably print a 5x7 and are 300dpi. The low-res images that are included with the photo packages are 72dpi and are suitable for online sharing and use as a desktop wallpaper.
Any other questions? Please email me or call 415-269-7196. Thanks!
